NXP NFC electric motorcycle puts in an appearance at CES

The NXP NFC enabled electric motorcycle was on display at CES. If you have never heard of or seen the NXP NFC enabled electric motorcycle before, now is your chance to learn how NXP has mixed and matched a few of its technologies to build a use case for NFC and other technologies that the firm is involved in. NXP Semiconductors business transcends NFC and is split into various business units. Every now and again NXP produces a cool project that has no other use than to feature how technologies can work together and, of course, this case features NFC.

The NXP Semiconductors electric motorcycle uses an NFC smartphone that is provisioned with a secure key held on a secure element to start and stop. Instead of carrying around specific keys for your motorcycle with NXP’s KeyLink Lite products both cars and motorcycles can be configured to unlock or spark the ignition with the use of your NFC smartphone.  Of course, the NXP motorcycle only features a few of the capabilities that the firm’s KeyLink Lite platform supports.

Other Feature of the NXP electric motorcycle beyond NFC

Okay, so yes, the NXP electric motorcycle uses NFC in innovative ways. It’s also not a gas (petrol) powered device and runs on electricity – but the firm added a few more gadgets to the vehicle. Mounted on top of the NXP electric motorcycle is a panel that houses an LCD screen and some controls.

With navigation built straight in, NXP has configured the GPS to sense any impact the vehicle may be involved in and call out to emergency services as well as text loved ones to let them know an accident has happened. Bother the call and the text give the exact location within five feet of the incident to improve emergency response times.

We can sometimes be a little guilty of only focusing on NXP’s NFC business because that is our area of expertise, but the firm is involved in many businesses including ID, RFID services and a few others. The innovative NXP Semiconductors electric motorcycle that uses NFC appears at most major events where NXP exhibits, so keep your eyes out for it.
