Well, no one can say that the digital fruit factory hasn’t kept us guessing with its upcoming Apple iPhone 5. It didn’t release it on its yearly June /July schedule; the rumor mill swore up one side and down the other it would be an upgraded iPhone 4, and so far we have heard that the new device will not contain either NFC or LTE technologies. Today, however, everything has been turned on its head again as new details emerge from a couple of sources and to a couple of sites.
Apple iPhone 5 to feature a teardrop case design
After last year’s debacle with Gizmodo, it appears the secretive crew known as Apple, have tightened security more than ever to keep the details of its upcoming, latest and greatest iPhone mum. It did until today at least. BGR reports that they have confirmed through a reliable source that the new Apple iPhone 5 will not just be an upgraded Apple iPhone 4. It has also been affirmed that the new Apple iPhone 5 will feature a teardrop case design which was reported on Thisismynext earlier today. Homemade renders of the potential new design have been floating about all day showing a variety of styles that may or may not represent the new iPhone 5. Interestingly, as a side note, the name appears to have settled on iPhone 5 again after flip flopping between iPhone 4s and iPhone 5 for sometime.

No word on NFC in the new Apple iPhone 5 as yet
Apple iPhone 5 to be announced in early August and could be launched as early as late August?
The rumors have suggested that the new Apple iPhone 5 would be launched at the iPod event in September, but today’s revelations are suggesting that an early August event could be in the works. It is also being suggested that you could have that shiny new teardrop Apple iPhone 5 in your hands by the time August leaves us for another year. It is not clear at this time whether the iPod event is being moved up or if the Apple iPhone 5 will get an event all to itself. We do know that Apple said at its WWDC that IOS 5 would not ship until the fall, but we are assuming that if the Apple iPhone 5 is indeed available in August that IOS 5 will ship with the new smartphone.
Still no word on LTE or NFC capabilities for the upcoming Apple iPhone 5
Although a couple of new pieces of information have come to light today we still have no idea whether the new Apple iPhone 5 will feature Near Field Communications (NFC) technology . We also have heard no new news about whether LTE will be a feature of the new iPhone.
