Well it’s official, the beauty known as the MeeGo touting Nokia N9 NFC phone is counting down to a September 23rd release. The countdown clock for the Nokia N9 NFC phone has been started on the Swedish Nokia website, suggesting that the launch will happen at 10 AM. At this time, we have no information to suggest that this launch will be the same for any other markets. However, speculation around the blogosphere assumes that Nokia will want to get the NFC phone out into the wild before Nokia World in late October which is set to exclusively feature Windows Phone 7 devices. If that theory holds true, we may also see some of Nokia’s other NFC phones join the party in short order.

If you happen to be in Sweden, there is also an offer for 30 people to become “N9 Pilots.” These lucky guys and gals will be selected as testers of the Nokia N9 NFC phone and will get to keep a candy colored slate when the pilot program ends.

Well ladies and gents, behold the last few phones of a dying breed. We welcome the Nokia N9 NFC phone with the bittersweet knowledge that we will not see many more of its kind. The Nokia N5, Cindy and Zeta NFC phone brethren may well be the last versions of an iconic era and now we can only stand and watch as Nokia is devoured by the demon that is Microsoft and its Windows Phone 7 OS. We have seen the SeaRay Nokia WP7 phone but it may not be an NFC phone, and we are not sure at this point whether we will see any WP NFC phones. We may have to wait until next year and the arrival of Windows phone 8. As soon as we get other launch dates for the Nokia N9 NFC phone, we will be sure to let you know.
