Nokia N9 NFC phone to give America and potentially UK a miss

We have been covering the Nokia N9 NFC phone for quite sometime. Nokia’s first and last MeeGo NFC phone made quite the stir when it was introduced, and many people have been waiting in anticipation for its release here in the United States. The guys over at Engadget have been trying every trick in the book to get Nokia to let us all know about a definite release date, as we already know Sweden and Switzerland have theirs and today they got some bad news. Nokia got back to them and said that they had no plans to launch the Nokia N9 NFC phone in the US.

Nokia said, “After the very positive reception to the launch of the Nokia N9, the product is now being rolled out in countries around the world. At this time we will not be making it available in the US. Nokia takes a market by market approach to product rollout, and each country makes its own decisions about which products to introduce from those available. Decisions are based on an assessment of existing and upcoming products that make up Nokia’s extensive product portfolio and the best way in which to address local market opportunities.”

Well, that’s not cool! We know Nokia is being sucked into the Microsoft belly of the beast but with such a revolutionary phone as the Nokia N9, we would have thought Nokia would have needed every sale they can muster up, especially after the financial results the company just issued.  The Nokia C7 Astound failed to find a market here in the States and this could potentially be part of the reason Nokia has decided to not give Americans the Nokia N9 NFC phone. It could also be because Nokia feels it needs to brand itself as a Microsoft only house and feels that the introduction of the MeeGo platform which has been received with very positive regards world over may take the shine off of what Microsoft and Nokia have to offer. Either way, we won’t be seeing the N9 this side of the pond.

UK may not see the Nokia N9 NFC phone either, Canada still has a shot

The Inquirer were given a similar statement regarding a launch date in the UK which means Brits may not get their hands on the phone either. That does beg the question of why Nokia has opened up the British NFC Hub website, has pushed NFC in the UK more than other countries and has made English speaking ads for the Nokia N9 if it didn’t plan on launching the Nokia N9 NFC phone in the States or UK? We can only assume Australia, New Zealand, Canada or South Africa may fare slightly better and get their hands on the well lusted device. Nokia also put the NFC phone through the FCC and because the Nokia N9 will not be heading Stateside, this probably indicates that Canada may get lucky. Oh, Nokia why do you giveth and taketh when you have an NFC phone we actually want? Right, that’s it! No Nokia N9 NFC phone, no more coming around for dinner and sleepovers Nokia, you can go and get yourself another friend – you are dead to us!
