Something big is coming, according to Samsung in its latest teaser videos

Samsung has released two teaser videos that suggest something big is coming and it will be announced at the IFA trade show in Berlin

What we are calling the season of smartphones is getting closer now. Apple, Google and a whole host of OEM manufacturers are getting ready to do battle for the holiday season. Multiple high-end phones are expected to be released between now and November with a glut expected at the end of September and early October. This fall is when Microsoft is also expected to enter the smartphone market proper, although they won’t have any NFC phones until next year. Now Samsung is releasing teaser videos suggesting that “something big is coming.” The videos suggest that whatever is coming, it will be announced on September 1st at the IFA trade show in Berlin, which is just three days after Samsung’s event to launch the Samsung Galaxy S II in the States. The promotional videos show people walking around with glowing objects that suggest that the 7-inch Galaxy Tab could be finally launching and yet there are also scenes where we see what appears to be a glowing phone. The other video simply shows people on a beach and really gives no clues as to what Samsung has in mind, apart from the fact it has an announcement and that the Berlin show is where it intends to share its secrets with the world.

What could these mysterious products be? Galaxy Tab 7-inch? An NFC-enabled Samsung Galaxy S3?

Well, firstly what is big news is a matter of perspective and it looks very likely that part of the announcement will focus on the 7-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab. Last time we saw the  Samsung Galaxy Tab, it featured a 7-inch Super AMOLED screen with a 1024 x 600-pixel resolution, a 3 megapixel camera round back and a 2 megapixel camera up front. However, that was last year and this could be one of the first Ice Cream Sandwich slates to be announced. Last time we saw the Samsung Galaxy Tab is was rocking Gingerbread and although it would be very early for an Ice Cream Sandwich slate to appear, stranger things happen at sea. What we will be keeping a keen eye out for is whether or not the 7-inch slate is NFC-enabled. Currently, there is not one NFC-enabled tablet on the market.

On the phone side of things, a big announcement would suggest a flagship model. We know Samsung has the Samsung Galaxy S II Hercules getting ready to launch and the announcement could well be about that phone. However, and we are just dreaming here, we could feast our eyes on an NFC Samsung Galaxy S3. We’ll know for sure after Samsung spills the beans on the 1st of September.

Samsung leaked roadmap may give us some clues

A Samsung roadmap that was debunked by the company appeared on various websites a couple of days ago and could give us clues to what Samsung has planned. We found the information over at the Italian site Telefonino.

Samsung I9250 (W48) – 4.65 inch Super AMOLED of HD resolution (1280×720 pixels), Android Ice Cream sandwich, 5 MP camera.

The Samsung I9220 (W43) – 4.3-inch Super AMOLED of HD resolution (1280×720 pixels), Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread, 1.4 Ghz dual-core processor, 8-megapixel camera.

The Samsung I9210 (W48) – 4.5 inch WVGA Super AMOLED, Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread, 4G connectivity, 16 GB of memory, 8-megapixel camera with LED flash, GPS, Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi b/g/n, 1750 mAh battery.

Samsung P6200 (W44) - 7 inch Super AMOLED of SVGA resolution (1024 x 600 pixels), Android Honeycomb, HSDPA, Wi-Fi, 3 megapixel and 2 megapixel cameras.
Samsung P6210 (W44) – Wi-Fi-only version of the P6200.

We already know about the Samsung S8600 Wave III, which is rumored to be an NFC Bada powered smartphone. The Samsung I9220 has our attention though, with a 4.65 inch Super AMOLED screen and packing Android Ice Cream Sandwich it could have the hallmarks of an upcoming NFC Samsung Galaxy S III, but that’s just pure speculation.
