Did Nokia just out its Nokia 801 Symbian Belle NFC phone by mistake?

Unannounced, previously unseen Nokia 801 Symbian Belle NFC phone shown in demo video at the IFA trade show

Some are a calling it the Nokia 801 NFC phone, others thinks it’s the Nokia N8-01. Whatever you want to call it, a video being shown at the IFA trade show in Berlin was showing off a 3D render of an NFC phone we haven’t seen before. A particularly svelte looking piece of NFC loving hardware at that, and with Nokia’s own brand of industrial design cues that would make Apple weep into their big pot of money.

We want to preface this post by letting you know this falls into the dubious rumor category at this point, but could be a real NFC phone we are yet to see come to fruition. No one can say that IFA hasn’t had its share of drama this year with the 7″ Samsung slate being pulled from the floor and now the sighting of what appears to be a previously unseen Nokia Symbian Belle NFC phone. The show has been akin to a tiara tantrum at a beauty pageant this year which we find most amusing, we have to say.

Nokia 801 Symbian Belle NFC phone

If you come over to NFC Rumors and pull up a chair on a regular basis, you will already know that Nokia has been pushing NFC capabilities hard. The IFA show was no exception and the Espoo crew were showing NFC capabilities on their latest and greatest Nokia Symbian Belle handsets. Part of the show and tell was a video showing accessories and NFC phones interacting with each other. So in that sense, nothing new there. However, what was unexpected was the “Nokia 801″ NFC Symbian Belle phone that starred in these videos. This video was shown as part of a test showing the Nokia 700 NFC phones video player.

First spotted by the Greek site Technoblog, the video featuring the “Nokia 801″ soon hit the web like white on rice and has since been picked up by both GSM Arena and Thisismynext. Not too much is known about this mystery phone outside of the observable facts that its 3D render showed NFC capabilities, it had a qHD screen and a rather aesthetically pleasing edge-to-edge curved wrap-around screen.

Check out the two videos above and start asking yourself the same questions we have. Is it a real phone? If it is a real phone is this “Nokia 801″ the successor to the N8? If it is the successor to the N8, will it be called the Nokia 801? What are the Nokia 801′s other specs outside of being a Symbian Belle NFC phone? When will it launch? In what countries? And finally, how much will this little NFC Nokia 801 beast cost? After you are done asking yourself those questions realize that the video states that NFC phone renders are for illustration purposes only and start back at question one, because we can’t even say for sure this is a real phone or if it is indeed the Nokia 801.
