LG LU6200 NFC phone to be LG’s hero NFC smartphone?

Haven’t heard of the LG U+, which is also known as the LG LU6200, NFC phone? Nor had we until a few days ago, but it is impressive to say the least. LG hasn’t really lived up to its smartphone prowess lately and the NFC phones that the company has announced have been geared more towards budget conscious consumers. Meanwhile, arch rival Samsung trots out hero phone after hero phone to the point it has started to threaten Apple in a big way. That could change very soon, in LG’s homeland Korea anyway. The team at Engadget came across a new NFC phone known as the LG LU6200 on the Korean website MovePlayer. If the LG LU6200 NFC phone shown on this little Korean website is half true, it will look as if Korea will soon have an LG LU6200 NFC wonder phone on its hands. Today more photos have been accidentally on purpose “leaked” which you can see below.

LG LU6200 NFC phone specifications

As we wait for NFC wonder phones like the Google Nexus Prime to get the green light in the States, the similarly specified LG LU6200, which is also known as the LG U+,  is getting ready for the prime time in Korea. Usually when we first get news of a new NFC phone hitting the market, specifications are at best slim. However, the LG LU6200 already has full specifications rumored. There are a couple of standout features that we must mention first, including a 4.5-inch AH-IPS HD (1280 x 720) display that will pump out video at 720p. The other reputed feature that graces the LG LU6200 is its 1.5GHz dual-core Scorpion CPU and Adreno 220 GPU, which straight away puts this NFC phone in the realm of hero phones.

Around back there is rumored to be an 8-megapixel AF shooter which is backed up at the front by a 1.3-megapixel camera for your video chat needs. The LG LU6200 has 1GB of RAM and also houses 4GB of built-in storage. Because the LG LU6200 is due to ship next month, the word is that the phone will ship with Android 2.3.5, but it is also rumored to be primed for Android Ice Cream Sandwich when it becomes available. So, software upgradability is assured. Make no mistake, the LG LU6200 is an LTE capable NFC phone and is said to run on LG Telecom’s U+ LTE network which will support a theoretical 75Mbps down.

The specs continue to impress and the LG LU6200 will come out fighting with an 1,830mAh battery, 801.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0, support for DLNA, MHL, WiFi Direct and NFC. Not the smallest hero phone in its class, the LG LU6200 still boasts a respectable set of dimensions which come in at 132.9 x 67.9 x 10.5mm and weighing 123g. LG has chucked up a page for pre-orders and they are said to begin on September 26th. That said, we don’t have pricing details or a firm release date as yet.

There is no word on a variant for Europe or North America as yet, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see an NFC phone like the LG LU6200 make its way over early next year.
