Hypercom is now Equinox Payments, still rocking NFC

Hypercom USA Changes Name to Equinox Payments, LLC

Verifone bought out Hypercom and the deal completed in August of this year. Part of the deal was that Verifone would have to sell off part of the Hypercom business to a third party because of anti-competitive concerns, and the US division was snapped up by The Gores GroupEquinox Payments will continue to support Hypercom-branded products in the U.S.

“Equinox payment terminals sit at the intersection between the physical store and the virtual world of payment processing where our products achieve a balance between robust devices and secure applications,” said Equinox President Clint Jones. “The name Equinox embodies our strategic vision for the company: industry leading hardware complemented with industry-leading software.”

NFC and contactless payments will still be the order of the day for Equinox Payments.

“With the recent proliferation of alternative payments, we are experiencing increased demand to load, host and manage third-party applications on our devices,” said Will Rossiter, VP Sales and Marketing. “Our EMV and contactless products, such as the L5300 and L5200 customer-activated devices, act as a platform to support merchant and customer-facing applications, such as digital wallets and other near-field communication offerings—all with an emphasis on security.”

Equinox payments intends to still service Hypercom equipment and will, in fact, keep the same product branding. All that will change is the name. Equinox Payments are currently building out their website which can be found here.
