Ice Cream Sandwich season is upon us and with it comes NFC smartphone announcements by the bucket load, and we are now wondering if the rumored Motorola Spyder / Droid HD / Motorola Razr HD or whatever it is called will be joining the NFC wunderphone ranks this week. Motorola has now placed a countdown timer on its page to the Motorola launch event that we presume will announce the Motorola Spyder. Interestingly that timer runs out just 7 hours before the Samsung Galaxy Nexus Ice Cream Sandwich is due to start over in Hong Kong, which again shows a concerted effort for announcements to come back to back and an NFC Ice Cream Sandwich phone from Motorola would enable a one-two punch to hit sales of the ever popular iPhone.

There has not been a peep suggesting that the Motorola Spyder is due to be an NFC phone, but we do know that rumors are flying around that the latest and greatest Motorola Android will be an Ice Cream Sandwich phone. Then Motorola goes and outs its Motorola ELITE SLIVER and Motorola ELITE FLIP NFC headsets, and yet they don’t have an NFC smartphone in the market. We have long expected multiple NFC smartphones to launch along with the Samsung Galaxy Nexus from manufacturers like HTC, Samsung and Motorola, so it would make a lot of sense that the nearly Google owned Android smartphone manufacturer would bring an NFC Ice Cream Sandwich phone to the party.
Motorola Spyder Ice Cream Sandwich NFC phone specifications
The Motorola Spyder smartphone, which is also known as the Droid HD, has a Verizon logo on both the front and back in leaked photographs. We have very few specifications at the moment apart from rumors that suggest the Motorola Spyder processor is due to be a dual-core 1.2GHz.
Remember we have seen no information to suggest the yet to be announced Motorola Spyder is an NFC phone but the timing of its announcement and the fact that Motorola just outed NFC headsets seems a little convenient to us. We are purely speculating, but we think there is a good chance that the Motorola Spyder will feature NFC. We only have until Tuesday to wait and find out whether the Motorola Spyder is an NFC phone.
