AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II NFC phone $50 at Radio Shack on Black Friday

Radio Shack have published their Black Friday deals and they include the original Samsung Galaxy S II NFC phone for $50 with a new two year contract or an upgrade. So, if you have been longing for a Samsung Galaxy S II on AT&T and wanted to wait for a decent price, here is your chance. However, do bear in mind that NFC is not enabled on the AT&T version of the Samsung Galaxy S II at this time.

NFC still switched off in the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II

We exclusively reported last week that AT&T is planning to unlock the NFC feature sometime at the end of December or early in January. Straight out of the box, however, you will not be able to use NFC at all.

AT&T are aggressively pricing NFC smartphones at the moment and are yet to allow any NFC feature on their network. Word is that the Galaxy Nexus has them spooked and that if they don’t enable NFC in the Samsung Galaxy S II, they will be the only network out of the big four without a working NFC phone on their network. Insiders have told us that the pressure is mounting inside of AT&T.

Whichever way you look at it, the Samsung Galaxy S II is a great phone and it does harbor an NFC chip, so as a $50 Radio Shack door buster you can’t go far wrong as long as you are prepared to wait for NFC to be enabled.
