IPI is starting the conversation about mobile marketing using print as a medium, and technologies like NFC (Near Field Communication), QR Codes and Augmented Reality at its next workshop to be held in London, UK. NFC print marketing that uses QR codes for legacy purposes is growing in popularity. By now we are all used to seeing QR codes on posters and print media for a variety of uses.
With Augmented Reality and NFC / RFID applications becoming more relevant and useful by the day, and NFC print marketing being set to reinvent and energize the print industry – which has been on the decline in recent years because of internet marketing – now is the time to get involved. With NFC smartphones and NFC tablets gaining in popularity and more and more consumers using mobile for search discovery and interaction, physical objects are set to get a boost for marketing uses. Arguably because of NFC, print will be one of the main benefactors. However, NFC apps are key to success, which is an area the print industry is yet to embrace.
IPI describe themselves as a ‘disruptive’ technologies specialist and they want to start talking about technologies that are both being used and those gaining in momentum to help companies reach a broader audience and enhance user participation. The group promises to “avoid the ‘sterile’ question and answer format normally associated with business conferences, by encouraging lively debate.” The main topic for this workshop is set to be ‘Influence Consumers through Interactive Printed Media’ and will explore all technologies currently available.
NFC and printed electronics experts set to attend the IPI workshop
David Potter, IPI’s Commercial Director, said, “With contributions from leading technology providers and early adopters, our Programme Sessions are specifically designed to accelerate understanding and reduce the risks in grasping opportunities for evolving technologies.
“Even more importantly, the sessions demonstrate real products and components that allow participants to see for themselves what is already possible,” he added.
At many NFC conferences, a problem so far has been that firms haven’t always given real products to be played with because the industry is just getting set up. To educate the general business community and public, live demos are an important step. By getting NFC products and services into folks’ hands to try out shows exactly why NFC and other mobile technologies are exciting.
Contributors from across Europe include: 3M spinout Printechnologics, Ydreams, Digital Space, Optricks, Near Field Solutions, and The Product and Image Security Forum so there will be a whole host of experts on hand for attendees.
