HID Global announces next gen NFC Access Control readers and contactless smart cards
When you think HID you think about access control, secure ID’s and RFID. Here at NFC Rumors we can’t get into our office without waving our RFID dongle in front of a reader, and just the other day we gained access to a parking lot that required a HID smart card and used a system that took us from the lot to our hotel room in an elevator that literally opened up the doors in our room – all with the smart card authentication.
Put simply, HID Global is the 100-pound gorilla of the access control and secure ID market and it seems they are moving with the times. The word of the day from the ASSA ABLOY Group brand subsidiary is NFC and we are liking what we are seeing, and that’s not just the coffee talking!

ViVotech brings NFC capabilities to retailers and merchants with its new ViVOpay 8100 reader
When we think of ViVOtech, we think of a NFC pioneer. You know, one of those companies that has been in NFC from year dot, who battled to educate and convert retailers to accept contactless or NFC payments and who shouldered those early setbacks as the technology got off the ground. Early adopters and pioneers rarely become household names and often run out of money or get consumed by larger, more established competitors that like the Borg want to add the innovation and uniqueness of a pioneer to their own collective. That didn’t happen to ViVOtech and no one can say they haven’t had a rocky road, but the company is still here and is still innovating. Named as a Google Wallet launch partner, ViVOtech has stayed true to its vision of contactless despite facing colossal competition from the likes of Verifone. ViVOtech, after a series C round of funding, are emerging as one of the few companies with real NFC payments experience, and have just announced their latest and greatest POS terminal NFC readers which also has legacy support for magnetic strip cards and EMV chip and PIN solutions.
