Unanswered NFC questions about the Galaxy Nexus which is an NFC phone
First thing’s first, we didn’t find out whether the phone will ship with NFC turned on for all mobile network operators. We know that many have been blocking NFC because they fear the extra data that will be used by consumers. We exclusively learned that the reason that AT&T had the NFC turned of in the Samsung Galaxy S II was for this very reason. Will the Galaxy Nexus meet the same fate?

The plot thickens with the Samsung Galaxy Nexus as a Verizon MAP (minimum advertised list) is leaked showing the upcoming Ice Cream Sandwich NFC phone scheduled for advertising from the 10th of November at a price of $299 with which we assume the two year ball and chain contract. However, this MAP’D device’s chart had dates beginning in July which suggests that it maybe out of date by the time it leaked.
We reported earlier today about one of our trusted sources who had communicated to us that Verizon and Google were not seeing eye to eye on Google Wallet being installed on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. We were told that this disagreement was the reason for last week’s cancelation of the Samsung “Unpacked” event. In fact, the disagreements are said to be so strong that we were told either the Samsung Galaxy Nexus would hit Verizon without Google Wallet, which is Google’s biggest investment to date, or there is the possibility that it wouldn’t hit Verizon at all.

Last week Google and Samsung jointly announced that they were canceling their “unpacked event” that was set to unveil the NFC-capable Samsung Nexus Prime and Ice Cream Sandwich. Rumors swirled around that the reason was a patent dispute, but our sources close to the matter are telling us a different story, which to us makes a lot more sense. As you will have gathered from the title, the issue is in fact with Verizon. Can you guess what it is?

Google and Samsung issued a joint statement informing members of the press that they were delaying the announcement of what is widely expected to be the Samsung Galaxy Nexus / Samsung Nexus Prime and the latest and greatest Android OS Ice Cream Sandwich. “Samsung and Google have decided to postpone the Samsung Mobile Unpacked event during the CTIA in San Diego, previously scheduled for Oct. 11,” The two companies canceled their “Unpacked” event and no further date has since been made public for the much anticipated launch.
Reason for delay was Samsung Galaxy Nexus patent problems and not the passing of Steve Jobs

It has been called the Verizon Droid Prime, it has been called the Samsung Nexus Prime, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and the Samsung Prime and it is an NFC phone. Whatever it ends up being called, it is looking like – what we are going to call it – the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is all set to launch on October 27th if a memo that is floating around Verizon internally is to be believed. The guys over at DroidLife had their hands on an internal Verizon memo that showed upcoming release dates and the “Samsung Prime” had a date.
However, the email that Verizon employees received this morning does say that dates are subject to change. But consider that this could be subterfuge. In a best case scenario, we could see the Samsung Galaxy Nexus released as early as next week to compete with the iPhone 4S launch.

We finally have the near full specs for the NFC Nexus Prime, or what we have now learned is to be called the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, and they are a little lower than we would have liked, but still very impressive. BGR got this scoop this morning and now we finally have a near complete picture of what we should expect from the latest and greatest pure Google experience NFC phone. The great news is the Samsung Galaxy Nexus doesn’t have a 4.5-inch display; it is actually going to ship with a colossal 4.65-inch 1280 x 720-pixel Super AMOLED HD with curved glass. We saw the teaser the other day that suggested that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus would have a curved glass screen, but we certainly didn’t know it would stretch our an extra 0.15 inches which puts it in a class leader position.
